| Cavern of Lourdes – Concepcionistas Convent |
The cavern of Lourdes is situated in the garden of Concepcionistas´church. It´s very similar to the original cavern built in France. It´s venerated by people of Vivero. It´s always full of candles and other materials called “ ex votos”. Its creator was Mr.José Pérez Barreiro, priest of Vivero. It was constructed upon the highest point of the city. It was built by order of Mrs.María de las Alas Pumariño in the 17th century. Its Baroque style contrasts with the Romanesque apse of St.María being one of the most beautiful in the old quarter.
The monastery is composed of ground and several floors, at the bottom there is a large vegetable garden which extends until the old walls and the door of Valado. Nowadays the monastery is inhabited by the nuns Concepcionistas Franciscanas. Its inner part is composed of a nave with a vault, four arches that support a spectacular dome. We can admire not only the major altarpiece and the lateral altarpieces but also the sepulchres situated in front of the major altarpiece.
